St. Mark's Tree of Life Community Courtyard Mosaic Project
Save the Date: Mosaic Blessing & Courtyard Dedication Sunday, September 22nd 2019
Project Description
St. Mark's a is a place of refuge and growth for all sorts of people in our community. It is a place where artists and musicians practice their craft. A place where preschoolers grow and learn. A place where people in recovery find strength in community. A place where believers can question and skeptics can pray.
In June 2019 we began creating a community art installation that reflects the beautiful diversity of the St. Mark's community. Under the guidance and direction of Manuel and Lisa, both professional mosaic artists, we've worked together to create a "Tree of Life" Mosaic in the courtyard just outside St. Mark's Parish Hall & Preschool. Participants ranged in age from 2-94, and everyone's contributions added to the beauty of our tree!

Meet our Artist/Facilitators
Manuel Hernandez is an artist having resided as such in both the United States and Mexico. His eclectic palette includes painting, ceramics, mosaic & tile murals, quilting, and ‘Papel Picado’- a delicate paper cutting technique. His work can best be defined through the vibrant colors of his Mexican heritage. Manuel also has experience mentoring under privileged adults and children, introducing them to art projects as a powerful tool in the healing of the soul. “We are surrounded by beauty”, he says, “and art can be created even with what most people consider trash”.
Lisa Domenici’s work in arts administration and teaching as well as studies in ceramics contribute to her love of community ceramic and mosaic murals. Most of all she enjoys working in the midst of high activity and accomplishes more than when working alone! (Perhaps this comes from her background as as a sibling of eight and mother of five) She recently she installed a mosaic of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the San Juan Diego Friary in Albuquerque. Over 73 persons of all ages volunteered!
Studies with renown mosaic artists as well as an artist residency at Southbank Mosaics in London have inspired and helped to perfect her techniques that she enjoys sharing with students.
She also creates individual art for sale and commission and is currently working on a series of mirrors that incorporate tiles, glass, and vintage dish ware.
