The O Antiphons are seven prayers by which we call for the coming of Christ among us--as Wisdom, Deliverer, Key of David, Root of Jesse, King of the Nations, Dayspring, and Emmanuel.
We invite you to use these beautiful prayers to ground your spiritual practice this season of Advent, using one of the seven antiphons as the basis of your prayers for each of the seven days of the week.
Below you will find a variety of resources based on the seven O Antiphons to explore and enrich your Advent Prayer Practice: chants, cycles of songs and prayers to pray with Anglican Prayer Beads, and ASL (American Sign Language) interpretations of each antiphon.
Monday: O Wisdom (O Sapientia)
Wednesday: O King of Nations (O Rex Gentium)
Thursday: O Root of Jesse (O Radix Jesse)
O radix Jesse, qui stas in signum populorum, super quem continebunt reges os suum, quem Gentes deprecabuntur: veni ad liberandum nos, jam noli tardare.
Friday: O Key of David (O Clavis David)
Saturday: O Dayspring (O Oriens)
O Oriens, splendor lucis aeternae, et sol justitiae: veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.
Sunday: O God with Us (O Emmanuel)
